Under intellectual property law, owners have certain exclusive rights to various markets; to various machines, musical, literary, and artistic works; to discoveries and inventions; and to applications.

The challenge is to define your IP, whether and how to protect it, and to judge the cost and time involved against the ultimate value of the protection.
