There are plenty of rules in life. However, some are there to aid us, such as the rules that regulate how to dress well. Of course, every man has his own individual style, and there are certain things that may work for one man and not for another. Yet good advice should never be ignored. In this article, we’re going to take a look at four fashion rules that have stood the test of time, and that when followed will help you to create the perfect failsafe outfit. Let’s get started, shall we?
1. Don’t Shy Away from Color
Most men are scared of color and so opt to wear outfits that are in either light neutrals – such as cream and white – or darks – like black and navy. However, doing so is a fashion mistake and there’s absolutely nothing to be intimidated by. A green or mustard suit, for example, could look particularly stylish, while blue is a versatile color that can be matched with most things. If you don’t want to jump in with two feet, add a little splash of color to your current outfits. A lavender tie, or a splash of maroon on your shoes, could be all you need to take a drab, boring outfit and elevate it into a stylish one.
2. Be Willing to Spend Money on Shoes
Quality shoes are an investment that will last you for a decade or more. Because of this, they’re well worth paying a little bit more for. Many of the top designers sell a range of men’s shoes and you’ll find everything from brogues to sneakers in their collections. We highly recommend purchasing a pair of loafers as your investment shoes as these can be matched with multiple styles and are as comfortable as they are fashionable. Versace shoes are an especially good choice if you want to take your outfit to the next level.
3. Less is More When It Comes to Accessories
Accessories like pocket squares and ties can help add a touch of individuality to an outfit. However, it’s important not to overdo them. Try not to add more than two accessory colors to your outfit, and wherever possible, either match them to your main garments or juxtapose them completely. A nice watch and a ring can be great ways to add an extra bit of luxury to your outfit too, but don’t go overboard with the jewelry. Less really is more.
4. Think of Your Environment
Finally, it’s very important to think about your environment when choosing your outfit. Think of the dress code of the area you will be visiting, and keep this in mind when planning what to wear. You will, for example, need to wear an entirely different set of clothes for an important business meeting as you would for a lazy Sunday dinner with your in-laws. If you look and feel out of place in an environment, you’ll lose your confidence and won’t feel at your best. If in doubt, overdo it.
