Light Bulbs

A lot of workplaces use incandescent light bulbs. These use a ton of power and this is because they create a lot of heat. If you want to get around this then you need to try and replace your older bulbs with some energy efficient ones. You also need to look into CFLs, LEDs or anything else similar.

City_SkylineCFLs have a much longer lifespan and they are also known for using 75% less energy when compared to standard bulbs. LEDs also have a very long lifespan, and they use 80% less energy without sacrificing any power. This will save you a lot of energy in the long-run and they also require a very low level of maintenance as well.

If your business relies on lights to grow crops or plants then it’s worth investing in some high-quality hydroponic lights too. Hydroponic supplies are now more affordable than ever, and there are plenty of energy efficient models available.

Light Switches

It’s normal to forget to turn off the light when you leave a room. If you find that you frequently leave the office lights on when you shut down for the night however, then your bills can increase by up to 50%.

You can invest in a motion sensor light for the rooms that don’t get used as often, as this will really help you to cut down on your energy bill. If you want to take things to that next level, then why not consider using a dimmer? This gives you complete control over your energy and it also helps you to keep your employees comfortable when working long hours.

Natural Light

Natural light can also help you to cut down on cost. It helps to create a way more productive working environment and it keeps your team more awake and alert during the day. When you have natural light shining in through your windows, turn off your office lights. Window tints or even filters can be used to stop glare or harsh lighting at various points of the day. This is great if you operate an office with lots of screens or displays, and it will also help your team to work more productively.

Energy Savers

Businesses often use electronic devices, such as printers or even computers throughout the day. If they are left plugged in, then they will drain your energy by a significant amount. You can even invest in some energy-saving power strips as well, as this will turn off any equipment that is not in use. If this is not an option, then you might want to invest in some timer switches. This will turn off all devices that are attached at a certain time, and this is great if everyone in your business works set hours. It also means that you don’t have to worry about certain members of the team leaving their devices turned on.

Server Room

It is highly recommended that you keep your servers as cool as possible. They generate a very large amount of heat, and data equipment can be very sensitive to temperature. They can also be sensitive to humidity levels as well.

Office_MeetingIf you want to get around this then you need to try and manage the airflow in the room. You can do this by opening the windows and by investing in some energy efficient fans. To further your results, you also need to try and turn off any servers that are not in use. When you do this, you can easily cut down on the energy that is being used and the heat that is being generated, which in turn, will reduce your cooling costs.

Exit Signs

Believe it or not, even exit signs will use up energy. You need to have exit signs by law because if you don’t then your team may not know where to go in the event of a fire or natural disaster. If you want to save on your signs, then invest in some that are energy efficient. Again, LED is a fantastic option and they use up less than a tenth of the wattage. They also last way longer as well. If you have a lot of them throughout your business, then this can really help you to take advantage of huge cost savings.

Heating and Cooling

Thermostat management can save you a huge amount of energy. It is always a good idea for you to label which thermostat connects to which part of your business building. If you have a lot of people in one office, then turn the thermostat up higher here.

If you have a small office that is hardly ever in use, then you might want to try and turn down the thermostat there. If you have old or outdated equipment however then this also needs to be dealt with. Older equipment will use up way more energy and this is even the case if you turn it off when it is not in use.

Space heaters are notorious for using up tons of energy, so make sure that you get rid them and invest in more energy-efficient options. You also need to repair any leaks that you have in your ductwork. AC units should have their filters replaced on a regular basis, as this can reduce its overall energy efficiency, even if it is a newer unit.

Insulation

It’s so important that you make sure that your business is well-insulated. Double glazing is so important, and it is a fantastic way for you to invest in the future of your business. You can use some high-grade window film to try and lock in the heat and you can also get some black-out blinds. This will help to heat or cool your business without using any energy at all.

So, saving energy doesn’t have to be difficult, and when you follow the above tips, you will soon see that it is easier than ever for you to do.
