Ah, the office. Whilst offices have certainly come on quite a lot in the past 10 years, there are still some of them out there that are unbearably boring. And whilst you still need to get the job done without too much chaos going on around you, the truth is that we spend over 40 hours a week in the office, and if we’re not having a good time in the process, then we’re definitely going to think about getting new jobs ASAP.
If you want to keep your staff interested in their jobs, and happy to turn up at work each day, then you need to make your office fun. Here’s our take on how you can do just that!
Make some space for relaxation
Whilst the office should definitely be a space that is created with productivity in mind, you need to make sure that you’ve designed it with some spaces for relaxation incorporated, too.
If your team members are going to be able to chill out in their lunch breaks and come back feeling ready to take on the job at hand, then they need to be feeling refreshed, and like they’ve had some time to themselves. Making a space that is devoted to relaxing is key, so incorporate couches, games machines and tables, and vending machines, too. The results from this will be great, and it’s certainly worthwhile.
Encourage team building and socials
Whilst it’s important to find a balance between work and play, having a monthly social event will be great if you want to increase the fun levels in your office. The truth is that it will be hard to create a fun environment if your team has never had an opportunity to bond over something that isn’t work-related, so organise events if you can, to really get them to build up their relationships. Cluego is a great idea if you want to get your team out of the office and working together, but even something like a work meal can really bring people together. Other activities like bowling are always a winner, too.
Think about space
Space is one of the main things that will define how fun your office is, and bringing people together on a daily basis will ensure that you have a space brimming with fun and great new ideas. Think about how your office is arranged: do you have lots of small, closed off spaces?
Would it function better if you opened it up, and let people interact with each other and exchange ideas? Open plan offices are quite controversial, but ultimately, it’s whatever works for you and your brand in the long-run. Every office has a different culture, and if you’re looking for fun, open plan could be just the ticket.
So, if you want to make your office fun again, then try out some of these simple things. From making some space for relaxation, to encouraging team building and thinking about space, there are many ways to bring some excitement into the day-to-day of working life!
