Your business card might be the first thing people see before they even meet you. It has to be something that they can engage with as well as interest them enough to find out more about you and what you do.

One of the best ways to entice people in is with a simple to understand, yet, well-designed business card.

So here are some tips for creating a professional and distinctive business card that packs a punch.

Details

This might sound obvious; however, many people have printed their business card, only to realize they have the company details missing – or incorrect. So think about the details that you want to convey. Your name, job title, company logo, and company name or a given. But which contact details are you going to include?

You need to have a balance between having enough contact options, but also keep some space on your card so that it does not look cluttered.

A website address, and email address, and a phone number will probably be all you are going to need. You may want to add in one or two social media tags if they are short enough and you have enough room.

Readability

The more information that you have on your card, the smaller your text will be. And while when designing your business card, the text will look readable on the screen when printed; it can look too small. As a general rule, try not to go smaller than 8PT. And remember the font itself will make a big difference to. While beautiful calligraphy funks look stunning, they can be very difficult to read.

Bright or not

Bright colors, when used correctly, can really make your business card stand out. The colors and shapes that you use will give a client or customer a deep insight into the type of person that you are. And, perhaps even a little bit about if they would like to work with you. However, the power of simplicity is not to be underestimated.

A high-quality card, either plain black or plain white, can be as memorable and as striking as a bright-colored card. It can also be considered more stylish too.

A key thing to remember here is that you are going to want to have the colours in the logo, website, and branding in your card too. So you will have to look for cheap business card printing that is also high quality. So that the tones of the color choices translate from screen to print.

Thickness

It is often that the higher up in a business a person is, the thicker and more texture their business card tends to be. There are cards that feel a little too thin – anything thinner than 300gsm can feel cheap, and not give the best impression of you and your business. So go for the highest quality of paper that you can afford.

Consider your business card as your first impression – and get it right the first time.
